

| In conjunction with Real Art = Real Estate, Art-O-Mat LIC will present a special edition of LIC History Night on Thursday, June 1 with a talk by architect Monty Mitchell on the historical framework of zoning in Long Island City. Monty Mitchell is a Registered Architect in New York State with experience in the design and rehabilitation of residential, commercial, and manufacturing buildings. In private practice since 1987, he has designed projects for new construction of residential housing and renovation of apartment complexes. He has been responsible for all phases of project coordination from design to construction administration. He is a specialist in the rehabilitation of historic buildings and the adaptive reuse of manufacturing buildings. Mr. Mitchell is a member of the Long Island City Interblock Association. He has his home and practice in Long Island City in a Landmark Townhouse on the historic block of 45th Avenue. Schooled at Yale and the Rhode Island School of Design, he is chair of the American Institute of Architects Code Committee. He is currently working on the Mayor’s Task Force for the Adoption of a Model Building Code as Co-Chair of the Existing Buildings Technical Committee. Mr. Mitchell has been responsible for the design and coordination of the following projects in Manufacturing Building Adaptive Reuse: The Foundry (conversion of foundry to offices), 42-28 9th St., Long Island City, N.Y; and the Joel Shapiro Studio (conversion of factory to artist’s studios), 42-25 9th St., Long Island City, N.Y. Mitchell’s historic building rehabilitation includes a townhouse renovation of a Landmark wood frame two family house with extension at 21-36 45th Avenue, Long Island City, N.Y.; and a townhouse addition (two story) to a two family house at 21-13 45th Avenue, Long Island City, New York. |
