Janet O'Keefe, Hunters Point Resident

We have no public schools in this area. We have quite a few children in this neighborhood who canıt afford to attend the Catholic school in Greenpoint. It is a shame that we have to bus our children all the way to Astoria. There were once two schools here, the PS #1 that has been renovated into an art museum and also what used to be St. Mary's and itıs just unfortunate that today the kids donıt have either. Also, in the winter there is no place for the younger kids to go. The local youth center program is for nine and older. There is nothing here for them as far as afterschool activities. I think this neighborhood needs a lot of changes.
