Looking for apartment in May

Not that I expect anyone to read this of course...

... buuuuut I am going to move out of my current shared place at the end of May, and was hoping to move into my own apartment. I have a cat, which makes apartment hunting extra hard. I'm looking for a place in Westish Queens (short commute to work) and LIC would be perfect. If anyone knows of an apartment which will be available starting anytime in May, for under $1200/month, well then you've got some valuable information there! I'd love to hear about it :).

As far as I know I'm a good renter. I have a steady job which pays more than 40x my maximum rent, good credit, and good references. I'm a non-smoker, single, with no debts or any other problems (aside from having a cat, if that counts). I'm fairly quiet and I don't tend to damage buildings (that's a plus I imagine) I'm sure that I could go to a broker, and I might end up doing that, but things just don't work that way in California (where I'm from) and I'm trying to avoid having to deal with them. It's not even the money so much as the dang sales pitches and fast-taking, you know?
