The closing of Nino's Restaurant on Steinway Street marks the end of an era for this part of Queens. It was more than a fine Italian restaurant; it was a neighborhood institution that signified the presence of an Italian community in Astoria. That community is disintegrating. Cultural diversity is wonderful, but it depends on cultural identity. Where are we in all this? This is what I keep wondering as I walk around town. Maybe it's time to hasten the trend and move out.
